Clive 'Arthur' Galletly here.
Independent Candidate for Rockingham

A disappointing result for me. You can have the best and most comprehensive policies in the world, but if you can't get people to read them, you have no chance! My signage didn't get many people to look at this campaign website unfortunately!
It all went down to the relentless advertising and photo opportunities afforded to the ALP candidate in the Sound Telegraph, and rolling out Mark McGowan in the campaign. I did my best to help turn Rockingham into a marginal seat to attract more funding for the many problems that need fixing.

My policies are spread over three pages.

Vote Independent for a change!

Scott 'Robodebt' Morrison would still be in power if not for Independents

Wide-ranging policy platform

Vote Independent for more effective results.!

With the ALP having such a huge majority, a vocal Independent will achieve far more for Rockingham

I was in the Debating Society at Oxford High School and Sheffield University.

I am an effective speaker who would use Question Time daily to press for Rockingham issues.

It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil!

I have the most comprehensive policies of any candidate.
The ALP candidate has just one policy: To upgrade sports clubs.

As an economist, earlier this year I applied to be a member of the RBA board, as a dissenting voice.

During Covid, it was 'We are all in this together'. Not so with battling inflation. The RBA has lost sight of two of its founding primary objectives, Full Employment and The economic prosperity and welfare of Australians. Welfare includes mental health, which took a battering during Covid lockdowns, and is taking an enormous battering with RBA policies. It is price and profit gouging that are the major contributors to inflation, and interest rises aren't stopping that, only Government policies can do that! The RBA is simply repeating the same mistakes as during the Oil Crisis of 1973, producing 'Stagflation', stagnation with inflation.

STOP PRESS!

The ALP candidate has just one policy: To upgrade sports clubs. And she has already had a win before the election!

After her recent .08 (not just .05) drink driving conviction was discovered (and the ALP was aware of it when selecting her as a candidate), Roger Cook has just announced a $10 million upgrade to the Mike Barnett stadium to shore up her campaign. Pork barrelling at its finest, most desperate and utterly cynical!

I would have used the $10 million to build a women's refuge centre, a homeless centre with support services and an alcohol/drug rehab clinic with in and outpatients. One of them could be in a small portion of the Dowling Street Reserve next to the Mike Barnett stadium with the entrance on Dixon Road. There is no residential area within cooeee, and is on a bus route.

Further I would have sought funding for a facility similar to the RAC Arena on the Dowling St Reserve, for great music or other performing arts, and for a basketball team in the national NBL. The men's Rockingham Flames are ready and the ladies are getting there. The men's team won the state title (NBL1 West) for the first time last year, and the National NBL1 title as well. The men's team wrapped up the minor premiership with two games to play this season and should give the finals a good shake, and also the national championship, which is being held in Perth. I have a clear vision!

The election debate by Inspire Radio

The first part of the debate organised by IPL Radio is now available for viewing. The links are included here.

I mucked up my introduction, very hard to say it all in just two minutes! I got about a quarter through what I wanted to say before being cut off! I wanted to mention the petition for the Emergency Department I organised in early nineties, standing for council and losing to a party backed candidate, named Mark McGowan, and then losing to him again when the sitting member, Mike Barnett retired and Mark McGowan was elected for Rockingham for the first time in 1996. He's run out of puff. I haven't!

I should have started this first and if time allowed, go back to the first time I stood, against Carmen Lawrence in Glendalough in th eighties. I have stood against two people who went on to become state premiers!

Here is Part 1 of the debate (opens in new window). The ALP candidate, who has just one policy, to upgrade sports facilities, declined the offer to attend the debate.

Here is Part 2 of the debate (opens in new window), in which I talk about building groynes to save our coastline and save dredging, and a statewide dung beetle program to improve soil quality, reduce run off of nutrients into waterways and reduce the number of flies.

I applied for a seat on the RBA board earlier this year as a dissenting voice. I was interviewed by the ABC for 25 minutes, but only 30 seconds went to air and didn't get my point of view across. It ended by cutting me off mid-sentence! You can view it (about 3 minutes in) in a new window.
